Volunteer Opportunities and Resources
Keep Iowa Beautiful has many important tasks, but the work of volunteers has the biggest impact on our local towns and communities.
Make a Difference Every Day
Small or large, service to our communities takes many different forms. Consider these ways you can serve:
- Serve on governmental committees, boards, and commissions.
- Become a positive contributor to enhancing your community, area or neighborhood.
- Volunteer with local schools or community garden projects.
- Assist in litter clean up.
Green Runners Iowa
Each year, the Green Runners of Des Moines leads a run from the State Capitol to the Iowa State Fair, collecting trash along the way. The event is free and the first thirty runners to sign up will receive free admission to the State Fair and a free beverage from the Budweiser tent.
Pick-Up Iowa
Join communities across Iowa in participating in Pick-Up Iowa in support of Great American Cleanup. Your community may participate by cleaning up litter and trash along Iowa’s roadsides, neighborhoods, streets, school grounds, parks, forests, and streams.
Volunteer Iowa
Volunteer Iowa (The Iowa Commission on Volunteer Service) is part of a network of state service commissions throughout the United States that exist to foster a bi-partisan state-level commitment to advancing service initiatives as well as developing, communicating, and promoting a statewide vision and ethic of service. This state agency is responsible for coordinating programs and activities formerly conducted by the Iowa Office on Volunteerism, which was launched in 1978 by Governor Robert D. Ray.
